Pieces of different sizes are combined into the same units where it helps. Each item type is first oriented for its most space-efficient footprint, then all pieces are packed together layer by layer, tallest first, sharing units and opening a new one only once the current one is full by space or weight. A non-stackable item is limited to one layer's worth per unit; a PMP is additionally capped at 5 pieces for any 48×40 in base footprint, regardless of height. This is a packing heuristic for sizing, not a certified load plan — a human loader may do better by hand.
